Making your own doll furniture is part of the beauty of being a child and letting them use their own imagination. Who says everything has to be "bought" or brand new? Especially when it's kids who will be playing with it. Things are going to get bent, torn or broken. Why spend fifteen to seventy dollars on furniture sets when there are perfectly good empty paper and plastic containers sitting around the house that can be transformed into objects only a doll could love.
